“Homecoming of Terror”: Review of House of Cards (Season 5 Episode 1)

Homecoming of Terror

Homecoming of Terror

The much awaited Season 5 of House of Cards will be aired on Saturday, 3rd June 5 pm onwards only on Zee Café #HOConZCafe and like many eager fans of this political drama I also cannot wait to enjoy this Season 5 Premium Marathon.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers from the First episode of Season 5 of House of Cards.

The opening episode of the Season 5 gives us a glimpse of the terror storm the Underwood’s are plotting to unleash on the terrified American People.

The episode starts with FLOTUS Claire Underwood’s (Robin Wright) public address that actually was a well-crafted political campaign reminding the people about the domestic terror and the upcoming presidential election where she stood in support of her husband President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey).

While the First Lady was, addressing the nation President Underwood interrupts the congressional session and demands an authorization of war against ICO the Terror organization that has terrified the nation. Frank throws his Power and weight around in a ploy to stop the group from discussing his shortcomings and to focus on the retribution for the home-grown terrorists that murdered Jim Miller, an innocent husband, and father. The Underwood’s are using terror spread among the nation to keep their Power and win the 2016 election.

“I will not yield” Frank Underwood, House of Cards.

In another shocking scene of the first episode, we see that Frank has had the terrorist in custody the entire time.

He looks to the audience and says, “Did you think I didn’t already have him, that I would have left him out there somewhere? I thought you knew me.” This scene shows us the depth of his complex character. Frank Underwood is ruthless, cunning and pure evil that is driven by power and for power.

One Nation...Underwood

One Nation…Underwood

Kevin Spacey as Frank in the First Episode played his role perfectly as ever but from the look of the opening episode of Season 5, I have a feeling that Robin Wright as Claire will take the center stage. She opens the season addressing the people and we can sense that she is going to be on the front end a lot and hopefully (I like her more than Frank) overpower her husband and take his position in the future.

The FLOTUS is powerful because she comes across as refined and calm but she is an opportunistic and a schemer. We see her cold side when she meets Joshua Masterson’s (terrorist) mother and asks her “Didn’t you know what was going on in your own home?” She also persuades her to appeal to her son to surrender.

“You saw what he did, didn’t you? Would you like to see it?” Claire Underwood, House of Cards.

She also visits a burned-out gas station, and calls out Conway for “refusing to acknowledge the seriousness of the threat made here at home”.

My favorite dialog from this episode was right in the beginning where Claire is recording her message for the nation.

She says, “It’s terrifying, isn’t it?” and we cannot help but agree with her.

The political landscape has remarkably changed since the fourth season of House of Cards. The real events have would have some influence on the series but I hope the makers of House of Cards do not change their story to match with the real world.

It amazes me how this show continues to surprise the audience. How they can find new depths of evil and how they come up with so simple yet powerful dialogues that stay with us long after watching the show. The Underwoods have us under an evil spell and from the look of the opening episode, I can safely say season 5 will be a thrilling ride.

Don’t forget “Frank Underwood is coming to India with the television premiere of House Of Cards Season 5 on Saturday, 3rd June, 5 PM onwards, only on Zee Café! #HOConZCafe”

Berger Express Painting Review – A faster, Cleaner, Better Way of House Painting

Berger Express Painting

Berger Express Painting

Saturday Berger Paints and IndiBlogger arranged an activity-filled event about innovation in house painting. It was interesting to know how much the painting world has changed. I wish I knew about Berger Express Painting service couple of years back when I painted my house. This advanced technology makes painting job a faster, cleaner and better method then the tradition painters. If you are planning to paint your house or just get one of those fancy textured walls then do check out the Berger Express Painting service and save a lot of your time and sanity in the process.

My experience with Traditional Painting Method:

Couple of year back I planned to change the paint of my house to a very elegant cream color which I had in my mind for quite a long time. Every room in my house was of a different color and the only instruction I gave to the local contractor/ painter was to change every room to my choice of cream that I selected from a range of almost identical colors sheet of cream and white at the local store that the contractor suggested.

The store-owner and contractor spoke in their mother tongue that I could not understand which made me feel like I was being taken for a ride. I should have noticed the red flags but as he was the only painter available before Diwali, I ignored my gut feelings and went with every suggestion the contractor was throwing in my direction.

The moment I purchased the paint cans and fresh brushes, the contractor took over the project and I felt that I had no control of what was going on in my own house. Next 12 to 15 days my house was a complete mess and I felt helpless and frustrated.

The bloggers meet made me realise that Berger Express Painting would have saved my Time, Money and Sanity.

How Berger Express Painting Tools would have helped:

Amazing “Home Painting Tools”

Short-handle Sanding Machine

Short-handle Sanding Machine

The workers had little to no regards about my furniture and a lot of time the ignored my suggestion to cover up the things in my house. My house was dusty and it was difficult to work, eat and even sleep because of the toxic dust in the house.

Here the Sanding Machine would have worked like a charm as it is,

  • Faster & Cleaner
  • Dust-Free Vacuum Function
  • Regulated Speeds

Multipurpose Mixer

The shade of my choice changed in the mixing process. As every room had, a different base color that the workers did not sand of completely the cream shade looked different in every room, which was not what I demanded from the contractor.

Here the Multipurpose Mixer could have helped get the shade and texture right as it is,

  • Quick & Hassle-free Mixing
  • Regulated Speeds
  • Putty & Texture Mixing

Auto Roller

Auto Roller

The workers sanded off the old color with hand and it was ended up uneven and with bad finishing. The brushes could not cover up the sloppy work and the whole wall got a bad finishing.

Here the Auto Roller would have helped as it is,

  • Adjustable Roller
  • Automatic Paint Pumping
  • Superior Finish

high pressure washer

High Pressure Washer

The high pressure washer helps to clean up difficult to clean walls like the ones that are blackened or have fungus as it is,

Create A Better Tomorrow with Pre-Sleep Visualization

Pre Sleep Visualization

Pre-Sleep Visualisation

Recently there has been a lot of talk about what you do right after you wake up. I also have three posts on the morning and night rituals (Creative Visualisation – Why I do it? and 3 Mistakes you are probably making while you Pray).

So why I am dedicating a whole post to Pre-Sleep Visualisation Exercise?

It is because I believe this is the most crucial part of the day. Our subconscious mind is most absorbing when we sleep or when we are in a relaxed mode.

“Everything you can imagine is real.” Pablo Picasso

If you have seen a hypnotist at work, you would have noticed that the first thing the hypnotist do is relax the person he wants to hypnotize. He sends him into deep relaxation or sleep mode before he gives him instructions. A learned hypnotist can do wonders at this stage. He can remove fears or deep-seated habits or addictions like smoking. He can make the person confident or even enhance any skills in this semi conscience mode.

“Almost all people are hypnotics. The proper authority saw to it that the proper belief should be induced, and the people believed properly.” Charles Fort

We get to this semi conscious; open to instructions and most absorbing stage just before we go to sleep every night. What we think just before we sleep is very crucial to shape our lives.

Most of us either think of things that went wrong that day or things that may go wrong the next day. Our subconscious mind absorbs all this and marinate in that thought for the whole night before we know it that negative thought becomes a reality in our life.

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” Theodore Roosevelt

Following trick may sound childish but it is a very powerful way to remember the pre-sleep visualisation exercise.

Imagine that after you sleep some angel comes and take notes of the last words you were thinking and seals those word for your future i.e. for your life. This angle does not check if it is positive thought or a negative one. It just seals our faith with our thoughts. In short, we are predicting our own future with whatever we are imaging in our mind.

Now if this really happens would you ever think, “I hate my life”; or “This never works out for me” or “Nobody loves me” or any other negative thought

or would you rather use this crucial time to think positive thoughts like;

“I am well,”
“I am content,”
“I am lucky,”
“I am rich,”
“I am strong,”
“I am beautiful,”
“I am blessed with a wonderful family,”
“I am blessed ….;”

Think about it, give it a try. After you say your prayers, count your blessings and kiss your loved ones good night think about positive affirmations or quotes and feel them as a part of your life. Give it a try you have nothing to lose. If it works out let us know.

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” George Eliot

Neem Oil Blend: Plus 5 Natural Ways to Keep House Mosquito Free

Neem Oil Blend: Plus 5 Natural Ways to Keep House Mosquito Free

Neem Oil Blend: Plus 5 Natural Ways to Keep House Mosquito Free

Recently mosquito-borne disease spread has risen. People in a state of panic buy chemically mass produced mosquito repellents, which in the long run are harmful to health.

Nature has some very effective ways to tackle this pest problem but only few take advantage of these natural remedies. We love the convenience of the chemical mass produced repellent but we cannot ignore the harmful side effects it can have on our health. Especially children should not breathe in those toxic fumes.

2 Methods to use Neem Oil to keep the pesky pests away:

Method 1: Make Natural mosquito repellent by blending neem oil and coconut oil in equal parts. Apply on your skin whenever you are stepping out. The bitter smell of Neem is strong enough to keep the mosquitoes away. Coconut oil helps to keep the skin soft and hydrated.

Method 2: Take 1 Tbsp. powdered Camphor and add 1 Tbsp. Neem Oil and blend well. Fill this mixture in an empty refill unit of your chemical mosquito repellent. Use this mixture just as you use the plugged in chemical mosquito repellent or in a vaporiser. The bitter smell will fill the room and you will notice the mosquitoes will disappear. Keep the room closed for some time for faster effect.

5 Natural Ways to Keep House Mosquito Free:

1. Tulsi: As per the Hindu culture Tulsi also known as The Holy Basil should be planted and worshipped. Ayurveda has mentioned many benefits of this amazing plant. Tulsi has some wonderful qualities. It is highly antibacterial and has the ability to keep its surrounding germs free. Tulsi has properties that do not allow mosquitoes to survive or breed.
2. Mint: Mint in any form be it leaves, oil, plant or essence is highly beneficial to keep pests away. We can plant mint shrub in balcony or windows. We can spray diluted mint mouthwash around the house. One can even burn dried mint leaves or use vaporiser. This not only helps the house become bugs free including mosquitoes it also makes the air feel refreshingly fresh.
3. Camphor: In method 2 we used Camphor with neem oil to keep mosquitoes away. In a closed room, light 5 to 6 pieces of Camphor let the smoke and smell of Camphor fill the room the mosquitoes will disappear in 20 minutes. Read about another use of Camphor in Camphor and Coconut Oil Blend: 7 Uses for Skin Problems, Pain & Much More
4. Garlic:  Garlic and garlic oil has many medicinal properties and it keeps Mosquitoes away. Crush fresh peeled garlic pods and let them infuse in water or natural oils like neem or coconut. Use this blend in vaporiser or spray around the room. The mosquitoes will stay away from garlic smell.
5. Eucalyptus/ Nilgiri oil: I love the smell of Eucalyptus. It is antiseptic and antibacterial. The smell relaxes the mind and calms tired body. I believe it also releases pain from the body. When we add Lemon Oil to Eucalyptus Oil it becomes a strong insect repellent. We can this strong oil blend in vaporiser to keep our house insect and mosquito free.

All the above remedies are 100% natural. Some of these are not as convenient as plugging in the store brought chemical repellent but these do not come with harmful side effects. In fact, the medicinal properties of these natural cures surrounds us with an healthy antibacterial atmosphere. You will sense the positive energy in your house within first few days.

Above mentioned methods are from the collaboration of old school knowledge passed down for generations. In extreme cases, some of these methods will fail to give expected results. Please take precautions accordingly.

5 Easy Habits to Introduce the Magic of Appreciation in Life.

5 Easy Habits to Introduce the Magic of Appreciation in your Life.

5 Habits of Appreciation.

Here goes a small tale I heard from a learned speaker addressing her audience about appreciation:

“A husband returns home from work to find his wife sitting on couch digging in a big bag of chips while watching TV, the house was a mess and his usually dolled up wife matched the house in appearance. She was still in her night clothes with messed up hair and a pile of home-delivered food’s empty containers lying on the coffee table in front of the couch. His emotions changed from stunned, angered and then worried within minutes. He went close to his wife and holding her hand he asked in a lowered volume, “what happened? Is everything fine?” She gave him a smile and calmly said “nothing.”
He went to the kitchen and saw there was no dinner prepared and the sink was overflowing with dirty dishes, he went to the bedroom and saw the bed still not made up. Laundry laying here and there, even his wet towel which he threw on the bed in the morning dried there itself. He rushed back to his wife and now with a firm voice he asked again, “Please tell me what’s the matter?” His wife gave him a sweet smile and replied: “Nothing dear every day you ask me, “what the hell you do whole day long?” So I did nothing today.”

I hope the husband learned the lesson but don’t we do the same. Don’t we always take people close to us for granted? How many times do we appreciate our loved ones? Our spouse or children or parents or siblings or friends or anyone who we depend upon? we don’t realize the importance of their presence in our life. Why don’t we appreciate the people in our life? Saying a simple thank you can be more powerful than we realize.

I do most of the cooking at home. When my busy husband takes out time to cook anything I appreciate it till he blushes. It’s not at all about the food he cooks or the work he puts into it but the thought that counts the most for me. As a result, he loves making more of these crazy experimental dishes for us. He puts his heart and soul in them because he knows his efforts are not only recognized but also appreciated. The result as you guessed right is always great food plus amazing quality time in the kitchen together.

Don’t get me wrong it’s not about getting work done from your spouse plan, showing your love for each other by doing something different and special together makes the life worth celebrating. In that couple of hours, we forget the daily grind and enjoy the present that means not thinking about the past or worrying about the future.

“The talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don’t have.” ~ Woody Allen.

We are the happiest when we Live in the Present. It may feel hard to spend most of our time in the present as we are used to thinking about our past or worry about future. We need to reprogram our mind to appreciate more and complain less. It is easy to tame your mind into a very beneficial positive appreciation habits using any or all below-mentioned methods. I gathered following tricks from many influential books like The Power of Appreciation, Creative Visualization.

5 Habits of Appreciation:

1. Appreciation Prayer: Like me, if you are one of those who prays, this will be the easiest way for you to start your appreciation habit. Just after your daily prayer, Thank God for something big or small. Feel grateful. It can be a single thing or a list of things. You will soon see the difference and get a feel for your prayers being answered.

2. Appreciation Diary: This can be the old school actual diary as many of us grew up writing in or the latest digital version of our computers or smartphones. Maintaining a diary is fun. We can document all our achievements big or small and when we need encouragement just going through this diary is bound to lift our spirits and help us create more reasons to write in that diary.

3. Appreciation Object: If you have read or watch “The Secret” you will immediately know what I am talking about for those who haven’t yet I would love to expand on this. An appreciation object is anything you can carry with you daily in your pocket that can remind you to be grateful for everything in your life. It can be a small rock, toy, marble, or anything small enough to carry and unique enough that you will remember its purpose. Whenever you touch it say thank you for something in your life…simple.

4. Appreciation before or after sleep: Just like appreciation prayer counting your blessing before or after your sleep can be a sure shot way to have a positive and productive day ahead. Plus it is far interesting than counting sheep.

5. Appreciation as and when required: Saying thank you at the right time for the right reason can help not only in your work but personal life as well. So never miss an opportunity to say thank you. It is very important that these thanks are genuine and not just a formality. It will make the other person feel good and the relationship will only benefit from a good heartfelt thank you.

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more.” – Oprah Winfrey

So how have you introduce the power of Appreciation in your life?

Today is our Blog Anniversary. The Vibrant Writer (dot) com is another year old and we are growing in leaps and bounds. In my experience as a blogger, I have learnt that running a blog brings out a wide-ranging mix of emotions. Many times, I have been delighted to see a positive feedback from a client or a reader. On the other hand, every tiny technological glitch has scared me enough to keep me awake at nights. While writing a fresh article sometimes words would flow naturally this is when I experience pure bliss inversely they were also days when I stared at blank word document for hours questioning my life choices.

How has Blogging changed my Life?

Blogging helped me stretch my creative mind while the logical side of my mind had no choice but to expand as it tried to understand and cope up with the ever changing technology.

I am eternally grateful to my blog for giving me a purpose, an identity, a creative outlet, work satisfaction, hope and strength. It has made me a part of a brilliant community of highly creative people and has brought me closer to like-minded people from all over the world. Blogging expanded my reach, my universe bigger than I could ever imagine.

One important lesson I learned this year from blogging is to keep moving, to keep updating or in simple words staying relevant.

Why I got an App for my Blog?

The world is changing rapidly and the ones who do not adapt stay behind. Today smartphones are the most preferred platform of internet users. I was constantly checking if my site is mobile friendly and was not very satisfied with the results I was getting. I needed something that will be user friendly for the loyal readers of my blog. After some research, I decided to launch a mobile App on the day of my blog anniversary.

The Vibrant Writer App is live on Google Play Store. Anyone can download it for free HERE

Why did I choose FirstWire Apps to develop my Blog App?

To be frank I had no knowledge about the App development industry. While doing some initial search FirstWire App’s site caught my attention as they create mobile apps for Bloggers and Small & medium companies.

I had a lot of questions and Anand Agarwal, the founder of FirstWire App’s answered all of them with patience. I exchanged a series of mails with Anand, every mail with a new question and he was prompt in replying them all. His answers helped to remove my fear of security concerns and other technical issues and gave me the confidence to go for the App.

How is the After Sales Service of FirstWire Apps?

I got constant updates from Anand while the App was in developing stage. After the development, he sent me a link to download the App on my phone. I suggested few minor changes and they were done in few minutes. This went on for a while and he was highly patient with me. I am also in the service industry and I value how politely he handled all my quires and suggestions.

I am happy with the after Sales service of FirstWire Apps and hope to see the same response from them in future.

Would I recommend them to a fellow blogger?

Yes, definitely because FirstWire Apps’ Developers are professional, fast, flexible and they know how to keep their client happy.

Few FAQs I like on the website of  FirstWire Apps:

Question 1: “I have a mobile friendly website, Why do I need a mobile app?”

Answer: There are some fundamental differences between two:

Website is for attracting new customers while app is for creating loyal customers

For website you need to open the browser, enter the website URL while app is just a tap away.

On website the customer comes, completes the activity and exits while on app the communication is two-way and ongoing.

Websites are more responsive to search queries but apps provides engagement, loyalty, and ease of use. App “lives” on user’s device.

The most successful marketers use their mobile website to attract new customers and convince them to download their app, generating an opportunity for profitable & ongoing relationships.

Question 2: Why should I get a mobile app?

Answer: Total number of mobile users have already surpassed the number of desktop users. World is moving from desktop to mobile-first to mobile-only era. Website is not enough as it cannot be fully optimized for mobile experiences. Mobile app provides better user engagements as it is sitting permanently on phones. Native mobile app provides many unique advantages like offline access, sharing etc.

Question 3: Who are behind FirstWire Apps?

Answer: We are a team of Code Ninjas, running technology business for past four years. FirstWire Apps is part of the group BICSL (Business Intelligence Consultant & Services LLP). BICSL is involved in building Analytics, Big Data & Mobile App products.

Question 4: Will you change the app as per my requirements?

Answer: We provide basic customizations like Color changes, Name, logo and branding etc. If you need a new feature on top of an existing app template then we would take it as a separate project. Please contact sales team for such requirements.
