How I got horrible chemical burn marks on my face:

Every once a while we fall for some not so good idea. The world is filled with DYI information that claims to help with most of our issues. Recently I learned a painful lesson about quick fixes for minor beauty concerns. I am sure just like me even you must have tried some desperate quick fixes without questioning their effectiveness.

Acne was not a concern for me in my teenage. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same now as my skin breaks out almost daily. Like me, many adults are facing scaring painful acne issues because of hormonal changes, pollution, stress, irregular & unhealthy food habits and other lifestyle disorders. Adult acne is painful, spreads easily to other areas of face and leave dark spots or scars.

Dark spots and scars almost covered my cheeks and I was desperately looking for a cure. I tried almost everything but natural ingredients are usually mild and they take time to work. I wanted something to clear the hideous spots fast and hence I started looking for something stronger.

I found few blog articles and YouTube Videos that claimed that toothpaste could fade acne spots. Some claimed that one could have clear skin overnight by applying dots of white toothpaste on the spots. This trick must work for few as I read positive comments below these videos however, this idea had an adverse effect on my skin.

Last week I foolishly tried the toothpaste trick hoping it will erase dark spots from my face. Before going to bed, I carefully applied small dots of white toothpaste only on dark spots and wiped away any excess paste. The toothpaste did not sting so I slept calmly with the cool and minty feeling of toothpaste on my face.

The next morning I got up with a feeling of uneasiness on my face. I rushed to wash off the dried toothpaste from my face. I was horrified to find out that toothpaste left chemical burn marks all over my face. These marks where darker than the spots. The affected skin looked and felt dry, hard, wrinkly and completely unappealing. My heart sank and I started crying as I thought I made permanent damage to my facial skin.

Slow and steady natural cures are good for us, as they do not have any ugly side effects. After my toothpaste chemical burn experience, I have decided to strictly use only natural ingredients.

The two ingredients that saved my skin from chemical burn marks are Aloe Vera and Sandalwood.

How to Naturally and Safely Cure Chemical burn marks and dark spots:

Step 1: Wash your face with any natural cleanser like cold milk, curd, honey or a mild face wash

Step 2: Cut a small piece of Aloe Vera leaf and apply the gel generously all over your face and neck.

Aloe Vera hydrates and soothes the skin. It also moisturises the skin so one can skip applying any lotions or creams for few days.

Step 3: If your skin still needs additional moisturiser use virgin or cold pressed coconut oil or almond oil or any other oil that suits you.

Step 4: Once or twice a day apply Sandalwood paste on affected area keep it for an hour and wash with cold water. One can keep the Sandalwood paste for longer time also. It also has cooling properties so it helps cure the affected skin rapidly. I prefer Sandalwood stick and not the powder as the powder we get in the market may not be pure.

Step 5: Do not fuss about our skin and do not try to scratch or peel the burned skin. While drying your face dab with a soft towel lightly and do not use force to scrub off the rough burnt area. Let it heal on its own and keep it cool and hydrated with constant application of Aloe Vera Gel.

Step 6: The dark rough burnt part of skin will slide off smoothly without leaving any scar or marks. I noticed my skin pigmentation got a lot lighter because of constant application of Aloe Vera. Light spots are still visible but they are vanishing slowly as I apply Aloe and Sandalwood Daily.

Never ever, try any new cosmetic or chemical product directly on your face. Always do a patch test on your arm or leg. Nature has cure for everything. The toothpaste burnt marks were worse than the dark spots that I was desperately trying to cure. With this incident, I learnt a lesson, never to fall for such short cut gimmicks. Stay wise and safe. Treatment:

Wash affected area with a mild cleanser and pat dry with a cotton towel,

Apply a generous quantity of the Camphor and Coconut Oil Blend on affected area twice a day or as many times as required.

2) Dark spots, Acne and Acne Scars:

A regular light massage with Camphor and Coconut Oil Blend lightens dark spots and acne scars. It also lessons the recurrence of acne.

Treatment:

Wash face with a your regular cleanser and pat dry with a cotton towel,

Massage few drops of Camphor and Coconut Oil Blend on spots and scars twice a day.

Once the blend dries apply your regular moisturizer or lotion.

Caution: For Sensitive skin, try a patch test on your arm or leg first before trying the blend on your face. If your skin is sensitive or you feel burning sensation after applying the blend increase the quantity of Coconut Oil in the blend.

If you still find it uncomfortable then stop using it on your face. This blend works for most but may not suit everyone so kindly use as per your skin condition.

3) Pain:

Camphor has pain relieving properties and a massage with the Camphor and Coconut Oil Blend gives relief from joint pain or pain due to soreness or muscle cramps.

Treatment:

Warm the bottle of Camphor and Coconut Oil Blend in sunlight or by keeping it in hot water for few minutes.
Massage a generous quantity of Camphor and Coconut Oil Blend on affected area twice a day.

Variation:

For severe joint pain you can also try a blend of Camphor with Sesame or Mustard Oil.

4) Cold and Chest Congestion:

Camphor helps in removal of Chest Congestion and can be used as a natural vaporub.

Treatment:

This treatment is most effective when you apply before you take a nap. Take a small quantity of Camphor and Coconut Oil in a small steel or metal bowl and heat it up for few minutes on a low flame. Take care that Blend does not get in touch with fire. You can also heat the oil in microwave using a microwave safe bowl.

Let the blend cool down. When the blend is warm enough to apply take a generous amount with your fingers and rub on your chest and neck. Cover yourself with a heavy blanket and take a nap so the blend gets enough time to remove the phlegm that is causing discomfort.

Extra Care: It is advisable to drink lots of warm water when you have cold to keep yourself hydrated and flush out the mucus that is causing blockage.

Extra Care: Using a mild shampoo repeat washing the hair twice as the oil will not come out in your first wash.

A brief reply to the comment cannot do justice to this important topic hopefully this article does. 4. Sit crossed legs in Padmasana (Lotus Position) or in Sukhasana (Easy Pose). If you have knee pain or arthritis you can sit on a chair with straight back rest.

5. Remember this asan is to relax and remove stress so do not strain yourself be comfortable.

6. Close your eyes and breathe slowly and deeply about 4 to 5 breaths to calm and clear your mind.

7. With your right thumb close your right nostril and breathe in through left nostril. Be slow and gentle. Then close the left nostril with middle and ring finger and breathe out of right nostril.

8. Next step will be inhale through right nostril and close right nostril then exhale through left nostril. Keep repeating this alternative breathing for 10 to 15 minutes.

9. For the first week start with 5 minutes. Gradually increase the time to 30 minutes.

10. If you cannot do Pranayams in morning you can do them post a gap of 4 to 5 hours after meal.

In the posts “5 Questions You Should Answer Before Going on Any Diet.” and “What keeps a Person Fat? Find out the Real Reason behind your Flab?” we discussed how frustrating and confusing weight loss and diets are. I always feel this topic needs a lot of discussion because I interact with many young girls who are repeatedly doing the same mistakes. They brutally starve their body and pop pills to cure number of complications they create because of their so call diet.

I actually hate the word diet; the first letters scream out ‘DIE’ and that is sign enough for me to stay away from this evil confusion. I don’t want to say that we should eat unhealthy junk. All I want to say is get professional help. Talk to some expert about your medical conditions. Get yourself thoroughly checked and eat sensibly. Finding fitness is making one’s lifestyle healthy and has nothing to do with starving to death.

I never trust meal replacements. If you can’t eat the replacement for rest of your life then why start it and put your body through a frustrating phase. Eat balanced meals so that you get all the required nourishment from food and not any pills. Sleep well as sleep deprivation is one of the biggest contributors to weight gain.

I am guilty of putting my body through disappointing diets and starvation in the past. I did that because back then I did not know better and I acted on advice from anyone and everyone. I ate next to nothing and worked out like I was going to take part in the Olympics. I checked my weight every day and was getting very upset as I was not getting desired results. I was maintaining a spreadsheet with my weight, measurements and targets I want to achieve in specific time limit. Irregular eating patterns and extreme changes in diet just confused my body to store more and more fat.

I would not see results because my body was not in sync with me and my strategies. Our bodies do not understand spreadsheets and celebrity diets as its instincts are still pretty primitive. Our body still holds down to the centuries old survival instinct. This survival instinct is a gift to us from evolution and as it names suggests it does help us survive when disaster strikes.

When we make meal plans to reduce our calorie intake, the survival instinct kicks in and our body feels it is going in starvation mode. For the body this is a serious scenario and it starts preparing for the famine. That is exactly what we start doing when we suddenly jump into extreme diets. We give signal to our body that there is a famine coming. The body starts storing everything we eat to survive the artificial famine that we created.

I believe I have turned you against starving in the name of dieting and that’s just have of the story. In my next post I will mention a list of foods that are super healthy, nutritious and filling. That means you can enjoy them guilt free. I want to write as many articles as possible on weight loss and fitness in the next month. I am dedicating December to fitness so that we can get rid of unhealthy eating patterns and habits and turn a new corner in 2014, a path that will take us to healthy and happy living.
