9 Natural (Edible) Ingredients for Flawless Radiant Skin

In my blog posts How to Clear Dark Spots/ Scars from Acne or Chemical Burn Safely & Naturally and Camphor and Coconut Oil Blend: 7 Uses for Skin Problems, Pain & Much More I have mentioned natural ingredients to clear blemishes. These natural cures are mild and they require time and patience that we sometimes lack and the benefit of using natural ingredients is that we do not experience any side effects.

“The great thing about Ayurveda is that its treatments always yield side benefits, not side effects.” Shubhra Krishan, Essential Ayurveda: What It Is and What It Can Do for You

Have you noticed how most of the beauty products available boast about the natural ingredient that makes their product different. Have you read made by real fruit or milk or oil on an expensive beauty product. If yes then why not use that product in its purest form rather than some nice smelling chemical treated product.

This article has a list of 9 such natural and edible skin enhancers that do wonders for our skin and they can be found in most kitchens.

9 Natural (Edible) Ingredients for Flawless Radiant Skin:

1. Lemon:

Lemon juice is rich in Vitamin C and it has been used as a natural bleach for generations. When lemon juice is applied regularly the spots and scars fade and the skin becomes radiant. Drinking lemon juice with warm water every morning also helps in clearing the skin as it flushes away the toxins. In case of sensitive skin kindly avoid applying lemon juice if you get mild irritation then dilute the lemon juice with either water or honey.

Lemon + Honey Face Pack:

Freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 tsp + honey 1 tsp. Mix well and apply. Keep for 20 minutes and rinse off. It gives us a nice glow.

A safe and natural method to clear dark spots or scars left behind because of Acne, Sun Burn or Even Chemical Burn from any product that was too harsh for your skin.

How I got horrible chemical burn marks on my face:

Every once a while we fall for some not so good idea. The world is filled with DYI information that claims to help with most of our issues. Recently I learned a painful lesson about quick fixes for minor beauty concerns. I am sure just like me even you must have tried some desperate quick fixes without questioning their effectiveness.

Acne was not a concern for me in my teenage. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same now as my skin breaks out almost daily. Like me, many adults are facing scaring painful acne issues because of hormonal changes, pollution, stress, irregular & unhealthy food habits and other lifestyle disorders. Adult acne is painful, spreads easily to other areas of face and leave dark spots or scars.

Dark spots and scars almost covered my cheeks and I was desperately looking for a cure. I tried almost everything but natural ingredients are usually mild and they take time to work. I wanted something to clear the hideous spots fast and hence I started looking for something stronger.

I found few blog articles and YouTube Videos that claimed that toothpaste could fade acne spots. Some claimed that one could have clear skin overnight by applying dots of white toothpaste on the spots. This trick must work for few as I read positive comments below these videos however, this idea had an adverse effect on my skin.

Last week I foolishly tried the toothpaste trick hoping it will erase dark spots from my face. Before going to bed, I carefully applied small dots of white toothpaste only on dark spots and wiped away any excess paste. The toothpaste did not sting so I slept calmly with the cool and minty feeling of toothpaste on my face.

The next morning I got up with a feeling of uneasiness on my face. I rushed to wash off the dried toothpaste from my face. I was horrified to find out that toothpaste left chemical burn marks all over my face. These marks where darker than the spots. The affected skin looked and felt dry, hard, wrinkly and completely unappealing. My heart sank and I started crying as I thought I made permanent damage to my facial skin.

Slow and steady natural cures are good for us, as they do not have any ugly side effects. After my toothpaste chemical burn experience, I have decided to strictly use only natural ingredients.

The two ingredients that saved my skin from chemical burn marks are Aloe Vera and Sandalwood.

How to Naturally and Safely Cure Chemical burn marks and dark spots:

Step 1: Wash your face with any natural cleanser like cold milk, curd, honey or a mild face wash

Step 2: Cut a small piece of Aloe Vera leaf and apply the gel generously all over your face and neck.

Aloe Vera hydrates and soothes the skin. It also moisturises the skin so one can skip applying any lotions or creams for few days.

Step 3: If your skin still needs additional moisturiser use virgin or cold pressed coconut oil or almond oil or any other oil that suits you.

Step 4: Once or twice a day apply Sandalwood paste on affected area keep it for an hour and wash with cold water. One can keep the Sandalwood paste for longer time also. It also has cooling properties so it helps cure the affected skin rapidly. I prefer Sandalwood stick and not the powder as the powder we get in the market may not be pure.

Step 5: Do not fuss about our skin and do not try to scratch or peel the burned skin. While drying your face dab with a soft towel lightly and do not use force to scrub off the rough burnt area. Let it heal on its own and keep it cool and hydrated with constant application of Aloe Vera Gel.

Step 6: The dark rough burnt part of skin will slide off smoothly without leaving any scar or marks. I noticed my skin pigmentation got a lot lighter because of constant application of Aloe Vera. Light spots are still visible but they are vanishing slowly as I apply Aloe and Sandalwood Daily.

Never ever, try any new cosmetic or chemical product directly on your face. Always do a patch test on your arm or leg. Nature has cure for everything. The toothpaste burnt marks were worse than the dark spots that I was desperately trying to cure. With this incident, I learnt a lesson, never to fall for such short cut gimmicks. Stay wise and safe. Take care.

Godrej Expert Rich Crème Hair Colour Review – A Good Way to Cover Grey Hair.

I recently visited my uncle’s place and got into a long discussion about colouring grey hair. When it comes to hair colour, like most of the elders, my uncle and aunt also have a lot of mixed opinions and lot of confusion.

If they go for natural products like henna then it may not give a proper colour. If the hair has more salt then pepper then henna gives a funny reddish colour which most of the elderly people do not prefer. The alternative is chemical loaded expensive hair crème that has a high risk of damaging hair.

If we make up our mind to buy the expensive chemical loaded hair crème we do not get a smaller pack for trial. So we cannot be sure about the risk of allergy or any other damage. For those with short hair it makes no sense to buy these expensive hair crème big packs targeted for long hair.

I always wanted to try a hair colour but it had to be safe and ammonia-free. I have kept clear from chemical hair colour for long now and when I noticed the small pack of Godrej Expert crème hair colour I decided to give it a try. The small pack looked very convenient and also because it contains the goodness of aloe protein. Godrej claims that this product gives hair deep shine and makes it ultra soft. My uncle and aunt wanted to try it out.

Godrej Colors Packs

The pack has 20 gm crème colourant and 20 ml of developer – they are pre-measured, so there is no confusion of ratio or no hassle of storing remaining colour. I found this as a very smart feature of this product. The price came as a pleasant surprise. For just 30 rupees, it felt like a very sweet deal. I picked up all the colours and got a nice variety of colours – (1) Natural Black, (2) Black Brown, (3) Dark Brown, (4) Natural Brown and (5) Burgundy.

My aunt was excited to try the Black Brown or Dark Brown colour. My uncle on the other hand like simple things and doesn’t get impressed easily. The no confusion pack got his ok. He liked the idea that he can use it without any measurement. The instructions on the pack are easy to understand and follow. Doing a Skin Hypersensitivity Test is always a good idea before trying any new product and the pack clearly instructs to perform a small patch test 48 hours before each application.

My uncle and aunt’s opinion after trying Godrej Expert Rich Crème hair colour for the first time:

The simplicity of the products made a very good impression on my uncle and aunt. They liked the easy to handle the no confusion pre measured sachets of crème colourant and developer. The smooth crème texture of the product after mixture made it easy to apply and spread and good enough to cover each and every strand of hair. For my uncle, 1 pack was enough but my aunt used 2 packs to cover her long hair.

The smell of the product is pleasant and that was another nice surprise to us. After wash, their hair got a nice even colour and also a very good grey coverage, hair felt soft and had a nice shine. The colour looked very natural and hair became easy to manage. My uncle and aunt are happy with the product and will definitely use it again.
