Vijaya Dashami – The Day I touched Divine.

Vijaya Dashami – The Day I touched Divine

Vijaya Dashami – The Day I touched Divine

I am not a born Bengali but become a part of this Vibrant and Beautiful community from the day I got married. Actually a decade before that; when I started dating my (now) husband. While dating I did participate in the beautiful culture by attending the Saraswati Puja at the Anandmayi Ashram and getting the divine blessings of Ma Saraswati who has always been generous with her blessings on me. In those college days we feasted like royalty on Durga Puja by attending the multiple Pandals and having the lip smacking Bhog and saving our pocket money to indulge on the Bengali delicacies available in the temporary stalls of the festive Durga Puja Pandals.

I still feel the excitement of a young college girl exploring a new world whenever I step into a pandal. The curiosity to know as much as possible, the concentration required to repeat every word after the pandit at the time of Astami Anjali, uproar of the Shankha, fragrance of the Shiuli Flowers, thump of the Dhak, clouds of incense emitting while a devotee is in a trance of Dhunuchi Naach and all this blending into an immense celebration of the Divine Shakti still gives me the goose bumps like I am experiencing everything for the first time.

I had to wait a decade before I could take part in one ritual that I adore the most. On the last day of Durga Puja which is also known as Vijay Dashmi all the married women get to perform a unique and special ritual.

The women dressed up in the iconic red border Bengali saree and big red bindies; perform the Dashmi Puja by getting close enough to touch, apply sindoor, offer Prasad/sweets to the massive idols of Ma Durga, Ma Lakmi, Ma Saraswati, Lord Kartikey and Lord Ganesh. This has always fascinated me as I have seen huge idols of various Hindu Gods in temples, in Ganesh Chaturti and other festivals but here it is hard enough to reach the idols feet let alone applying Sindoor on forehead and actually feeding the idols sweet with your hands.

Here I do not want to get into the debate about idol worship because as per my hindu upbringing and beliefs touching those beautiful clay idols is as good as touching the Divine Shakti herself.

Last year on Vijay Dashmi, I was standing in the line of women to perform this beautiful ritual. I have a very curious mind and do not hesitate to ask anyone about their take on spirituality.

I summed up all my courage and asked the women ahead of me in the line, “What do you say to Ma when you get so close to her?” I got almost similar answers from most of them as they ask for health and happiness for their family, they ask for success for their husband and children, they ask for help when they need some and as such blessings from the Ma.

I pondered on the thought about what I shall say. I knew I would not get a lot of time in front of the Idol, the line was huge and every lady was getting rushed. I had a list of things I could ask for to Ma but this list is always in my mind so naturally it reflects in my daily prayers. I wanted to use these few beautiful minutes that I get once in a year with the Idol of the Divine, which is full of the positive energy of so many people by expressing my inner most thoughts and prayers.

The moment I got on the podium and close to the Idol of Lord Ganesh my inner most prayer came out of my heart and it was “Thank You”. I kept repeating Thank you constantly. Thank you for this opportunity to express my inner most thoughts for you, thank you for this life and everything you have blessed me with so far and thank you for all the blessings you have lined up for me in the future.

I touched a pinch of Sindoor on the foreheads, hands and feet on all five Idols, I fed them with a morsel of sweet and while doing all this I constantly kept repeating Thank you as a Mantra. I could feel the warmth of the Divine Smile graciously accepting my prayers.

The day I touched Divine and Thanked her for everything – I felt blessed.

Me with my Best Friend

Me with my Best Friend

What makes someone our best bud? Someone who fills our life with love and laughter, someone who gets us into trouble but also tries to get us out of a pickle. A best friend gives us the courage to go beyond our mental limitations, someone who challenges us to try to achieve our dreams, and someone with whom we can share anything and everything, someone who stops us from repeating our past mistakes but also sometimes become partners in a different blunder.

“When you’re in jail, a good friend will be trying to bail you out. A best friend will be in the cell next to you saying, ‘Damn, that was fun’.” ― Groucho Marx

I share a very strong bond with my best friend. For the last 16 years, I have been on fun roller-coaster ride with this special buddy of mine. Soon after we met, we become inseparable. As if two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly we instantly knew, we were meant to be together. Soon our friendship blossomed in love and the companionship got stronger. A decade of courtship got us close enough to be bonded in matrimony.

“You are my best friend as well as my lover, and I do not know which side of you I enjoy the most. I treasure each side, just as I have treasured our life together.” ― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

I share many great memories with my husband. Back in the dating days before we both got busy with our careers we went on a lot of unplanned trips. As we both loved water we would mostly end up at some coastal place. The sun, sand and waves kept calling us and we would immediately get on with another road trip. Rain or shine, by car, bike, ferry, bus or train we would always reach a destination where we could get drenched in the ocean.

Some unforgettable incidents happened on such trips. The scariest one was when we were quite young and stupid. Our first car got stuck in the sand of a secluded beach. We both were scared as we could not find anybody to help us and no matter how hard we tried, the car would not come out. We both had to go and find some locals and then request them to come and help us free our car. The locals did not like tourists and it was not a pleasant situation but the car got out unharmed.

With every challenge we face together we both come out stronger and wiser. We both understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We also understand the value of each other’s support and every day our dependency on each other increases. We feel stronger when we are together as we work as a team.

“My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.” ― Henry Ford

Everything Is Fair In Love

We are starting year 2016 with some love and laughter.

Everything Is Fair In Love

Everything Is Fair In Love

Riya belonged to a conservative family. Her big dreams were suppressed by her narrow minded relatives and her high ambitious nature was looked as inviting trouble. Riya worked hard to move out of her town and go away from narrow minded people. Even after living in London for ten years she couldn’t overcome her fear of commitment. From a very young age Riya never had any close friends she had a phobia that if she let people get close to her heart they will start putting restriction on her. Her whole life she has just defended herself against people close to her and now when she was thousands of miles away she still felt she will become vulnerable if someone gets close to her. She was scared of being emotionally manipulated and gave most of her time to her Investment Banking career.

Riya’s life was extremely planned and organized. She was always serious and behaved formerly with everyone. Her life turned upside down when another Indian moved in her building. Gautam is a professional nature and wild life photographer and was completely opposite to her. He never planned anything and lived as per his instincts. They got to know each other as they were the only Indians in the building and soon became friends.

Riya felt very comfortable with Gautam. His carefree attitude made her feel relaxed. She never felt any restrictions around him and Gautam on the other hand loved to get Riya’s help to organize his life. They both completed each other and together they both made a strong couple. Soon the friendship blossomed into a loving relationship.

For the first time in her life Riya felt bliss. She was the happiest and was learning to become a more relaxed person. Everything was going great and then something happened that brought out Riya’s commitment issues. Gautam proposed and she felt as if her everything was happening very fast. She panicked and felt as if she is again losing her freedom. She yelled out no and ran away from him. Gautam tried to reach her but she was avoiding him. She loved him but couldn’t control her emotional condition.

Broken hearted Gautam decided to spend some time in India with his family. His family unaware of his emotions suggests him to consider an arrange marriage proposal that they were interested in. Gautam still hurt from the sudden breakup with Riya decides to marry Neha as per his family’s wish.

In London as Riya missed Gautam she started getting back to her senses. She understood she was wrong to behave in such a way with him and wanted to ask for his forgiveness. Riya got an unexpected call from India about Gautam’s wedding. She felt as if a bolt of lightning hit her. The caller informed her that his name is Rajiv and he knew about her relationship with Gautam. He also told her that if she wanted to stop the wedding he can help her.

Riya felt no fear this time she did not needed her organizer to tell her to get to on the next flight to Delhi. She instantly reached Delhi. Rajiv was waiting outside the airport for her. Gautam’s town was two hours drive away from Delhi airport. Riya never sat in an open gypsy jeep before. It was hot, sunny and the air was playing tornado torture with her hair but she didn’t care. Riya was listening to Rajiv’s plan to break up the wedding and get back with the love of her life.

As per Rajiv’s plan she did not contact Gautam and stayed in a hotel in the town. That very night Rajiv managed to get Gautam to the hotel where Riya was staying. Gautam was shocked to see Riya but then Rajiv explained how he contacted her and arranged for their meet so that Gautam can change his mind about the wedding.
Gautam was surprised and happy to see Riya again but was still hurt with her behavior and was not sure if he wanted to continue the relationship with her. Riya pleaded for his forgiveness and told him that she was scared about commitment but now when she got a glimpse of her life without him she was sure that she could not live without him.

Rajiv was happier that the couple and to end the curiosity Gautam says to him. “I am grateful to you for helping me get close to my love; but why are you helping us?” Rajiv smiles and says “Everything is fair in love.” When they both looked confused he explains further; “This is a small town and the people living here are narrow minded. Love marriage is a strict taboo. Before you accepted the marriage proposal you informed Neha about your past relationship and so she found out about Riya. That’s how I came to know about her and with help of bit of research I got in touch with her. I hoped she would say yes about coming and meeting you and I didn’t have to convince her. She came immediately and everything went as per the plan.”

“Oh so you and Neha?” Riya asked. “That’s right we are childhood sweethearts and now when you cancel the wedding. I can convince my family to ask Neha’s parents for our wedding. After this cancellation they will not think about love marriage and all. They will happily accept our relationship and we can soon get married. That’s why I always say – Everything is Fair in Love.”

Why we need to be careful of what we say after the words “I Am”.

A Christmas gift at the end of the post.

“I Am That I Am” are considered sacred words as it is the response what Moses got when he asked God for his name. Spiritual speakers like Wayne Dyer, Pastor Joel Osteen and many more have highlighted the power of the words “I Am” in shaping our future. Dr. Wayne Dyer explains that the words “I Am” are sacred identification of God so we should be very cautious when we use these words in our day today life.

I am

I am

“The words I AM are your sacred identification as God- your highest self. Take care how you use this terms because saying anything after I AM that’s incongruent with God is really taking the Lord’s name in vain!” — Wayne W. Dyer

As per Pastor Joel Osteen the words “I Am” are magnetic and whatever we put after “I Am” comes looking for us. Whatever we say after the words “I Am” we invite that in our life.

Let us take a look at our thoughts; what do we mostly say or think after “I Am” in our regular phrases. Do we say “I Am Sick,” “I Am Tired”, “I Am Depressed,” “I Am Fed up,” “I Am Scrapping by,” “I Am Broke,” “I Am Lonely,” or do we think the exact opposite.

When you get up and see yourself in the mirror what are your first thoughts. “I Am looking so old,” or “I Am so fat,” or do you say “I Am always late,”

Take an honest test of your thoughts and answer this question. Is your life attracting exactly what you say after “I Am” or this spiritual law does not apply to you. Take your time start keeping check of your thoughts and spoken words and note if they actually become a reality in your life.

If this spiritual law works in your life I have amazing good news for you. You can shape your own future and your own life. Just get extremely conscious about your words. Never say or think anything negative about you and while you are at it why to think anything negative about others too. Just remove every negative thought and word from your life.

Make a list of affirmations that means a lot to you starting with “I Am” and read it in the morning after you get up, at night before you sleep and if you like read it whenever you get time during the day. Play it like a song in your head. Even if the affirmations are not true (yet) you should always use present tense to set the positive forces in motions.

I have mentioned some affirmations starting with the sacred, magical, magnetic words “I Am” in my post – Create A Better Tomorrow with Pre-Sleep Visualization

“I am well,”
“I am content,”
“I am lucky,”
“I am rich,”
“I am strong,”
“I am beautiful,”
“I am blessed with a wonderful family,”
“I am blessed ….;”

A Prayer for New Beginnings

A Prayer for New Beginnings

A Prayer for New Beginnings

The internet is buzzing with New Year’s wishes and I don’t want to stay behind but giving a plain greeting doesn’t feel right. In the last couple of years we have grown so close through the posts and the comments, mails and because of our entire social media connections. In honor of this beautiful relationship where we are trying to grow together and build a better life I want to share something nice with you.

While we all are planning new adventures to take on in the new year I would like to say a prayer with you and wish us all to achieve all the dreams we dare to dream and much more. In my post “3 Mistakes you are probably making while you Pray” I have shared a small prayer mentioned by bestselling author ‘Marianne Williamson’ in an interview. I would to remind you the simple but very meaningful prayer that we can say everyday or every morning to the higher power we believe in.

• Where would you have me go?
• What would you have me do?
• What would you have me say and to whom?

This prayer was appreciated by many and taking your response as an inspiration I would like to share a longer prayer with you. A prayer I hope brings you the good luck, health, happiness and fortunes in this beautiful New Year. So please read it aloud and refer it to the you believe in. Let that divine force be your guide and help you have a very fruitful year ahead. Let us not forget to be grateful for all our gifts and opportunities we were blessed with in the last year.

Dear God,

We place in your hands our burdens and our questions and our responsibilities,
We place in your hands our debts and our assets,
We place in your hands our fears about money and work, and
We place in your hands our visions and our prayers and our hopes for money and work,
This and then all things dear God we pray to be lifted to the highest level of divine order,
May we be who you would have us be, that we might do what you would have us do,
May our work in the world dear God be more than just a Job may it be a calling,
As I surrender myself and ask that I may be used by you,
That whatever I do be it for the love that uplifts all things,
May the brilliance and the genius that is your spirit within us move through me,
in collaboration with the genius moving through everyone else to create the most beautiful world.
Thank You.

Happy New Year! May this year bring immense happiness, great health, peace and prosperity in our lives.
