5 Life Lessons from Art Of Living Happiness Program

Those who know me know that I am a student of life that means I like to keep studying about Power of Mind, Spirituality, Positive Thinking, Health and one of my favorite area – Happiness.

AOL Happiness Program

AOL Happiness Program

I zealously take on every chance to grow my knowledge in the topics mentioned above. Recently I got the opportunity to do the Art of Living’s Happiness Course and I am glad I did it. This course highlights some important life lessons that most of us tend to forget in our daily struggles. This is not a religious course as it focuses mainly on the way we react with people or circumstances and its effect on our life.

The course also encourages the habit of daily exercises, Meditation, Yoga and Pranayama. One feels refreshed and recharged while and after this course. The Happiness Course acts as a Mind and Body detox.

“The best form of worship (puja) is to be happy, is to be grateful” – Sri Sri

Initially I was a bit concerned about the time requirement for the course. 6 days 3 hours each felt a little tedious. I was pleasantly surprised that the time flew by during those 6 days. Every morning I got up looking forward to the class and was happy to be an active participant in the program. Both my teachers (Sunil Poddar and Preetam Lunawat) were bustling with energy and joy, they also encouraged us all to stretch our limits be it of our stressful mind or tired body.

“Keeping the mind happy makes work effortless. This is the skill for productivity” – Sri Sri

AOL Happiness Course has taught me to focus on the present it has also taught me to live responsibly. This program teaches 5 main points which I have shared below.

Happiness Point 1: Opposites compliments each other

Without darkness, we cannot appreciate Light. Without Sadness, we would not know happiness. We need to accept and value the bad to appreciate the good. Life is fascinating when it is full of ups and downs. We need to understand that our universe has a beautiful balance of opposites.

Happiness Point 2: Accept people and situation as they are

Do not spend your life reacting to unfavorable situations. Life is going to throw some curve balls and we need to respond to them in a matter that will help others and us in the situation. A panic or angry reaction will only make the situation worst.

Similarly, we tend to compare a person with others that creates a lot of bitterness in relationships. Check out an article about harms of not accepting people as they are 7 Mind Traps that Steal our Happiness Trap 3: Comparison

Happiness Point 3: Don’t be a football of other people’s opinion

People worry a lot about what others say about them and this burden of other people’s opinion forces a person to take some very wrong decisions. I have written a detail article on the mind trap that will help anyone who feels trapped because they cannot ignore other people’s opinion. 7 Mind Traps that Steal our Happiness Trap 1: What other People Think about me

Happiness Point 4: Take Mistake as Mistake

When someone commits a mistake, do not go blaming that person for it. It will create a very negative impression in that person minds but on the other hand if we consider the mistake as mistake the person feels more responsible about his/her actions and would never repeat it.

Happiness Point 5: Stay in the present moment

We should not waste our time thinking about the past to save our mind from painful memories or the future as it puts stress on our mind. Staying in the present helps focus on the actual task at hand.

“When you wake up every morning, look into a mirror and give yourself a good smile. The smile is the sacred gift of life.” – Sri Sri

My next post will be about the life lesson that affected me the most. It is not one of the above-mentioned ones. It is something that was discussed in the class but it captured my attention and helped me analyze a self-sabotaging habit I needed to change immediately. There is a lot I learnt in those six days and I will be sharing it all with you so keep reading and do not forget to comment your views about this or any other article. Thank you for reading. Stay Awesome 🙂

Can Meditation help us to Lose Weight?

As I have mentioned in previous posts

I strongly believe in power of Mind – jabong.com/womens-day-story and
Make Losing Weight A Game Of Your Mind And Win reaching your desire weight is not just about your food and exercise but it is about altering your whole lifestyle.

Can Meditation help us to Lose Weight?

Can Meditation help us to Lose Weight?

If you are like me, you would be finding as many tips and tricks as possible to make this journey painless. I believe that the power of my mind can reset the metabolic rate and hormones to make the weight loss as effortless as possible.

Meditation has been effective to help people achieve personal and professional goals. Many successful people have experience the rewarding benefits of meditation and encourage a daily practice. You do not need any special tools or equipments to meditate and there are no side effects.

But can Meditation really help us lose weight?

To answer this question first let us understand how meditation affects us physically:

1. Meditation transforms us into an awakened being by energizing every cell in the body.

2. Meditation lowers high blood pressure

3. Meditation lowers the levels of blood lactate, reducing anxiety attacks

4. Meditation decreases any tension-related pain, such as, tension headaches, ulcers, insomnia, muscle and joint problems

5. Meditation increases serotonin production that improves mood and behavior

6. Meditation improves the immune system

7. Meditation increases the energy level, as us gain an inner source of energy

8. Meditation helps us sleep better

9. Meditation brings balance to the hormones in our body

10. Meditation also reduces stress and can resolve many psychological concerns like overeating.

There are countless benefits of a daily mediation practice. I will write another post to highlighting most of them as in this article I want to concentrate on specifically mediation for weight loss.

To answer the above question I would like to say YES! Meditation can help in weight loss. Our body is constantly replacing old cells with new ones. It follows a set blueprint that shapes our body. Your subconscious mind controls this blueprint.

The subconscious mind does not understand what we want it responds to our feelings. With meditation, we can focus on what exactly we want this attention will alter the rigid blueprints of our subconscious mind. This will help us see changes in your overall health and body. Wherever the mind goes the body follows.

One needs to accompany meditation with proper diet and exercise to see the results. Meditation is an ancient proven method to achieve your desired life and the goal of a healthy body can be achieved with help of daily mediation ritual or practice.

Important points to consider before you start your daily weight loss meditation practice:

. Schedule your time in advance. Keep aside 20 to 30 minutes in the morning for your meditation. Be a morning person wake up early to enjoy the calm and serenity of the time before the rest of the world wakes up

. Locate a quiet place for your meditation. A place in your house, your terrace or garden any location where you will not be disturbed while you meditate

. Keep your family informed about the meditation practice so they would not disturb you while you meditate

. Ware comfortable or loose fitted clothing which will help you feel relaxed

. It is advisable to sit on the floor in crossed legs position but if you have difficulty in sitting down you can sit on a chair but sit up straight keep your spine erect.

. If you require a cushion for your back, please use it. The idea is to be comfortable enough that you would not get distracted while you are meditating.

. Keep your goal vision ready. Either draw a picture of you or keep a photo of your when you were at your desired weight or write down the healthy weight goal that you need to achieve. Keep this simple or go for a big fancy vision board with affirmations and pictures. Whatever makes you comfortable just keep it in your bedroom to keep you motivated about your goal.

How to Lose Weight with Help of Simple Mind Tricks

Our subconscious mind takes care of our habits. It is challenging to change a habit or follow a new one, as our subconscious mind is rigid and stubborn. However, can we trick our subconscious mind to make some changes for good? Can we trick it until it adapts to the new habits that help us lose weight? I believe we can and the following points will help you get started with this new weight loss idea. If you come up with some more ideas feel free to write them in the comment so that everyone can benefit.

How to Lose Weight with Help of Simple Mind Tricks

“I may not be as strong as I think, but I know many tricks and I have resolution.” — Ernest Hemingway

1. Rise Early:

If you are not a morning person it will take you some time to adopt this change but once you get use to starting your day early you will completely love the serenity of the morning time. You will be more productive and would be able to accomplish more than just weigh loss.

Start exercising within 30 mins after you wake up. Why? Because our mind is smart enough to find excuses and avoid working out later in the whole day. I have started keeping my workout clothes and shoes near my bed so I stumble upon them first thing in the morning. Before my mind tells me to sleep for 5 more mins I get dressed for my workout.

“The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same.” — Carlos Castaneda

2. Have a Hearty Healthy Breakfast:

Make this your biggest meal of the day. Eat healthy breakfast but avoid sugary cereals. A vegetable juice can be a very good addition to your breakfast and please don’t trust the package juices as they are mostly fake and filled with sugar.

If you love sweets don’t have them after dinner have a small portion with your breakfast giving yourself enough time to burn the calories but don’t make this a habit. If you get tempted say to yourself. This will stay for few minutes on my lips but forever on my hips. Trust me this line works.

3. Eat Slow:

Eat like a baby. I understand you may not have time to eat slowly in the morning but you can try this trick for your lunch and dinner. Eat in small plates, eat extremely small bits, and chew a lot. This will make you full very soon. You will be surprised how much less food is required to feel full. As you chew your food properly it will help with the digestion. A happy stomach will reward you in many ways. Losing weight will just be one of them.

“Happiness is a gift and the trick is not to expect it, but to delight in it when it comes.” — Charles Dickens

4. Cutoff Time:

Have your dinner early. Keep a gap of 2 to 3 hours between your dinner and bed time as this helps with the digestions. This habit will also take some getting used to so here is an excellent trick that I recently found out. Brush your teeth immediately after dinner and send a signal to your mind to cutoff any thoughts about food for that day. The fresh minty taste of the toothpaste will also help to control your sweet tooth cravings.

“The trick is to enjoy life. Don’t wish away your days, waiting for better ones ahead.” — Marjorie Pay Hinckley

5. Keep Moving:

If you have a sitting job try walking for a couple of mins every 1 hour. Walk to the water cooler, to the washroom, printer, a colleague anything just get up every hour or 90 mins and walk for a minute or two. Everything adds up a min of walk or a piece of candy. Your weight loss success depends on what you choose.

A very effective way to shed some pounds is to go for a walk after dinner. What it is raining outside? You say or you have to watch your favorite TV show after dinner. Then I suggest walking inside the house or march in one place as long as the show runs 30 mins or an hour. Be gentle with your knees and ankles as you walk, run or job.

“Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing something else.” — Tom Peters

Money Beliefs: Rich Mind vs. Poor Mind

Money Beliefs: Rich Mind vs. Poor Mind

Money Beliefs: Rich Mind vs. Poor Mind

“Bless that which you want. If you see a person with a beautiful home, bless that person and bless that home. If you see a person with a beautiful car, bless that person and bless that car. If you see a person with a loving family, bless that person and bless that family. If you see a person with a beautiful body, bless that person and bless their body.”— T. Harv Eker

What do you feel about the topic of money? Is it something you enjoy talking about or it makes you feel uncomfortable?

I have been reading and listening to life altering books and seminars by T. Harv Eker and would love to share some titbits of knowledge with the readers that are always hungry for knowledge that makes life amazing well in this particular case rich.

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind is one of the best works of T. Harv Eker as I said earlier it can change lives. All we need to do is study our thoughts and feelings about money and we can change our financial condition for good.

Harv like many other success couches teaches us about the power of our mind and how it is controlling everything in our life especially our financial status.

He explains this with a simple example of a tree. The fruits (Money) depend upon the quality of roots (thoughts, emotions, action). When we understand this law of nature a positive shift takes place in our life.

“If you want to change the fruits, you will first have to change the roots. If you want to change the visible, you must first change the invisible.” — T. Harv Eker”

Everything is energy. Money is also energy. In fact money is a result of our Mental, Emotional and Spiritual condition.

Thought leads to Feeling leads to Action which leads to Result.

Let us understand how our thoughts can make us rich or poor. Let us notice the different beliefs of a rich mind and a poor mind. If you are struggling financially may be you need to notice your beliefs and make some healthy changes. I hope the below given examples help you as much as they helped me.

Rich Mind Vs. Poor Mind

Rich Mind Vs. Poor Mind

1) Rich Mind thinks (I create my life) – Vs – Poor Mind thinks (Life happens to me)

A rich mind believes in creating own life with his/her own thoughts and decisions on the other hand the poor mind believes life happens to him/her.

This single belief controls the destiny of our life. If we believe we create our life then we have control to get us out of any unwanted situation by controlling our thoughts, emotions and actions around that situation.

2) Rich Mind thinks (There is no rich victim) – Vs – Poor Mind thinks (Victim: Blame, Justify & Complain)

Rich Minds try to learn a lesson from any adverse situation. They never ever see themselves as a victim.

However Poor Minds enjoy the attention or sympathy they receive from being a victim. They blame everyone and everything else for their troubles, they justify their failures and they complain about everything and everyone.

Harv warns his students against blaming, justifying or complaining. He says; “Whenever one blames, justifies or complains s/he slits his/her financial throat.”

What we focus on expands. Complainers become a giant crap magnet.

Harv suggests his student to take on a challenge – 7 Days without any complains. Miraculous things can happen if you can spend 7 days or more without a single complain about anything. You cannot blame or complain out loud or even in your mind. If you find yourself doing it unconsciously cancel the thought and redirect your mind to something pleasant.

3) Rich Mind thinks (Goal is to get rich) – Vs – Poor Mind thinks (Goal is to get comfortable)

A rich person tries to get or stay rich and he does not care about comfort or convince or if things are difficult.

A poor person looks for easy, comfortable and hopes on getting rich by staying in his comfort zone.

“If you are willing to do only what’s easy, life will be hard. But if you are willing to do what’s hard, life will be easy.” — T. Harv Eker

4) Rich Mind thinks (Play to Win) – Vs – Poor Mind thinks (Play not to Lose)

Every challenge is an opportunity to win for a Rich Mind. On the other hand a Poor Mind steps consciously in a challenge if s/he absolutely has to with a hope that s/he will not lose.

5) Rich Mind thinks (Everything) – Vs – Poor Mind thinks (Either / Or)

A Rich Mind understands that true wealth comes from abundance in all areas of life. S/he strives hard for health, happiness, family, spirituality and all major aspects of live along with wealth.

Conversely, a Poor Mind believes s/he will have to scarify his/her health or relationships or something important if s/he tries to acquire wealth.

6) Rich Mind thinks (Admire & Model) – Vs – Poor Mind thinks (Resent & Envy)

Rich Minds love to be in the company of other successful people. They admire the qualities that make people wealthy. They learn from influential people. They try to model methods of successful people to reach their own goals. They learn from the experiences of others and are a knowledge soaking sponge.

Poor Minds resent successful people. They avoid them and envy them. They try to find fault in them and close their minds towards any wisdom coming from them as they feel inferior to learn from others.

7) Rich Mind thinks (Bigger than their Problem) – Vs – Poor Mind thinks (Smaller than their Problem)

Rich Minds try to make themselves stronger and bigger than any problem they might be facing. They attack their problems armed with knowledge and dedication. They treat problems as stepping stones as they are aware that it is temporary hurdle and overcoming it will help them grow.

Poor Minds complain and make their problems bigger than they actually are. They let fear overcome them. They think about the worst outcome and try to avoid the problem. They give up great opportunities when they face hurdles.

8) Rich Mind thinks (Results) – Vs – Poor Mind thinks (Reasons)

A Rich Mind focuses on results. They are concerned about the goal, the end product of any act. They do not care about the hurdles as they have their eyes set on the final prize.

A Poor Mind focuses on reasons or excuses while trying to achieve any target.

9) Rich Mind thinks (Learn & Grow) – Vs – Poor Mind thinks (Already Knows)

A Rich Mind is constantly willing to learn and grow. A Poor Mind closes itself from anything new. It creates an attitude of already knowing enough and avoids studying.
